Each player initially controls 4 areas. They are put into play before the beginning of the game. The provide a place for characters to be and they usually provide energy or have special abilities. They often have Initial energy and Restore energy.

Areas are cards and have no additional properties. They are also permanents. They have an implicit ability: This is not effected by anything that does not explicitly effect Areas.

There one exception No Man's Land is an area that is not a card.

Each player chooses 3 areas that are played with a deck and 1 area that must be the generic area.

At the beginning of the game, each player lays out their area in any arrangement.
